Today, the blogging challenge topic is wisdom, something with which I have absolutely no experience whatsoever. I’ve been struggling with what to write–a rare situation. Words usually come fairly easily to me, even if they don’t go together particularly well.
To me, wisdom means good judgment through experience. Of the latter, I have some. Of the former, not so much.
An example of a wise move might be to gradually build up to things, starting with something easy, then moving on to something more difficult. For example, running a 5k race, then a 10k, then a half marathon, then a full marathon. Me? I’ve run a few half marathons, then I’m going for a full this fall. Haven’t tried a 5k. Haven’t tried a 10k. At least I didn’t start with the full?
A wise climber attempting to lead for the first time might start with a 5.6, then move to a 5.7, 5.8, etc. Me? I started with a 5.10a (basically the limit of my toprope climbing at the time) and fell while attempting to clip into the second bolt, the worst possible place to fall. My fall was stopped by my diligent belayer two feet from the ground. I literally stood up on the ground, hands shaking, took two deep breaths, and started up again.
So yeah. Wisdom? Not my thing. 😉
